To: RW c: JPB JPB/Aln 3 NH 23.9.57 1610 "Matchbox Series" Car Model Mr. Blatchley is away this week and has asked me to reply to your memo RW 8/KS 19.9.57. We both agree with you that the samples do not capture the appearance of the actual car to a sufficient degree and, in that sense, the result is disappointing. With regard to the suggestion for a two-colour scheme, we feel that the line of demarcation at the waist is so ill-defined on the model that it would be difficult to apply successfully. The lack of definition is, of course, partly due to the extremely small size of the model. Our chief criticisms are as follows:- 1. The shape of the rear corners of the boot. 2. The shape at the junction of roof and quarters. 3. The thinness of the roof edge above the windows. 4. The lack of curvature on the screen. 5. The absence of fog lamps, which we think are an important part of the R-R frontal appearance. We presume that the fog lamps would have to be joined to the bumper and would like to see the latter with more plan curvature giving greater distance between bumper and radiator shell. --- If all the above alterations cannot be made, the ones we feel most strongly about are Nos. 1, 2 and 5. Whilst the road wheels are rather featureless, we feel that no improvement can be made whilst the rather crude axle shafts are employed. JPB/Aln Aln | ||
