X5782 To EY/NHW. from EFC. c. EY. EFC5/T12. 2. 26. RE INSTRUCTION BOOK. 20 HP & 40/50 HP. X5782 With reference to the topping up of the battery, in the 40/50 HP. under "Every 500 miles or weekly" we have "Inspect level of acid in battery". In the 20 HP. we have "Inspect level of acid in battery cells (see makers instructions at end of book)". We recommend that in both these cases we say "Inspect levels of acid in battery; This is most important. (See battery makers' instructions at end of book)" In addition we think that in Chapter IV Care of Battery and under the section "Care of Battery under Running Conditions", we should add to the end of the 40/50 paragraph :- 'It is most important that the battery should not be allowed to stand with its terminal voltage below 10.8, as this will shorten its life. 'It is even of greater importance to keep all plates well covered with electrolyte' and I would like to put at the side some indication that these two recommendations really are important and are not merely a sort of casual recommendation. In the 20 HP. Instruction Book, we already have the two sentences. We trust you will be able to do something to this effect, if or when possible. This has arisen because it appears that even our own people do not properly look after the batteries. EFC. | ||
