X8793 Extract from GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}2/RP.23.8.26. REPORT ON CHASSIS 12-EX. EAC.8 AFTER 9,000 MILES X.7940. Magneto & Drive. X.8793. X.7100 Lucas magneto No.326-ER.6. B1A. Modified Hardy fabric coupling to E.74506 otherwise to L.O.P. E.73297. The drive is still in good condition.) The magneto has given further trouble, the chief cause being that the distributor gets in a dirty condition quickly, causing misfires. The brush fitted at 6000 miles shews signs of burning and wear. The condition of contact points is fairly good, they do not shew very much deterioration and are making good contact. Battery Ignition. X.8680. X.4652./ GP.4 coil with finer primary winding to L.O.P. D.71008. Contact breaker fitted with bone gre-y fibre rubbing block in accordance with EFC2/T9.4.26. Stainless steel sparking points and rotor D.71009-10 EFC3/T13.4.26. otherwise to L.O.P. D.70793. Condenser to L.O.P. D.70936. Ballast resistance to L.O.P. D.70843. We have had one failure with battery ignition during the continuation of run; this was caused by the wire to the ballast resistance breaking off close to terminal. We have had this happen on other 10000 miles tests and it would appear that a sleeve is needed to support the wire. The contact points are still making good contact and very little burning has taken place. The break has decreased .003" during the last 3000 miles thus making a total wear of .009" during the test. The condenser connections have remained good and the general condition of distributor has remained free from oil and clean. The stainless points are O.K. The rotor is discoloured and shews slight signs of burning. - | ||
