Dear Sirs, Regarding your letter of the 4th instant referring to some Vacuum Units Model 680WA{Mr Wallis} sent to you in May 1940. These are the Vacuum Units only shown with a six-cylinder Distributor to our drawing No.AU.9.7454. We have some of these available, if this is the part to which you refer. The vacuum control return spring can be increased in pressure to assist its return to the fully retarded position, but it may be too strong to obtain sufficient advance for the maximum fuel economy at light throttle. This can be ascertained on the test bench. As you know, it is our normal practice to design this spring for optimum advance against engine test figures at quarter and half load throttle positions. With regard to eight-cylinder distributors, we have none in production, and as we previously warned you some time ago that should you require any more we would endeavour to carry some stock, but as we had no call for same we did not replenish our stock in London.
