Chandler}4/AP.16.9.37 PHANTOM III. CLUTCH The horizontal link F.87029 which locates the pedal shaft in relation to the engine, is made in S/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} unhardened. We suggest that the eye at the engine end, and also the pin in the clutch casing should be case-hardened. As an alternative, a hardened bush might be provided as in the 25/30 engine tie link F.60582. This link developed fully .030 slack on 32-EX. after 17000 miles. It is realised that in the case of 32-EX. this link is subjected to reversal of load owing to the clutch servo spring reacting from a point attached to the frame, whereas in the later servo design the spring thrust is self-contained, but it is thought that the wear is more due to general vibration than to the actual operation of the clutch pedal.
