312. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}2/R.15.9.37. ENGINE COUPLING P.III. With regard to standardisation sheet No.312 for a Balancing ring on the rear coupling (G.85152) on which you say that the tool cost will be £30 and not £17, we do not agree with your suggestion on the back of the standardisation sheet. The original reason for adding the balancing ring to the coupling was at the urgent request of the Works to facilitate balancing the assembly. We fitted the rings as near as we could to the back-end of the entire coupling as it is the balance at this end that affects the vibrations of the car. We think it would be almost useless fitting it where you suggest, and recommend that if it is not agreed to fit it in the position chosen by the Experimental Department that it should be left off altogether. This will mean that the coupling will have to be balanced as now by the addition of washers, etc. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} | ||
