Bentley Petrol Pumps;

Should an occasion arise when a Petrol Pump fails to operate when the ignition is switched on, firstly try starting the engine, as the float chambers may already be full.

If this is not the case, inspect the fuses which are situated in the end covers of the pumps. Should these be intact, replace same and loosen the delivery and suction unions on the pump. When switched on the pumps should then operate rapidly, causing a "burring" noise. The unions should then be tightened to ascertain whether or not the pumps work under load.

VALVES.

Trouble occurred on one occasion where water found its way into the petrol system, set up a corrosion and so stuck the valves.

If at any time the valves have to be removed, firstly unscrew the 3/8" union and plug on the top of the pump casting. It will then be seen that the delivery valves are held in a brass cage by a spring clip, the whole of which can be lifted out.

The suction valves which will be seen on removing the cage can be taken out by means of a spot of grease on the end of a pencil or rod. When replacing make sure that the valves are clean and flat, also that the seatings are free from dirt.

DIAPHRAGM SETTING.

If at any time a Pump is dismantled and the setting is upset, the following should be carried out when reassembling.

There are eleven brass diaphragm location rollers between the fabric and armature top which should be taken out whilst resetting. Behind the diaphragm is a return spring which must remain in position.
