Mr. Hancock from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} We are in receipt of your report of the 17th.inst. dealing with Brakes and Steering. We are most interested in what you say. As a result of your reports, we have analysed the efficiency of the whole braking linkage. We find that the efficiency of the linkage to the front brakes is very much higher than the efficiency to the rear brakes as you will see by the attached chart. The result is that we do not get the ratio front to rear which we should expect from our theoretical calculations because a lot of the power to the rear brakes is lost in the multiplicity of linkage between pedal and drums. You will see from the attached chart that when you had 18-EX out in France the efficiency of the linkage was only 50% to the rear brakes, but we have now raised it considerably. We are sending out to you a set of new brake linings. We have decided to scrap Tenoid. The linings are Ferobestos, which you will recollect you tried a long time ago on a 10,000 miles test. contd :- | ||
