Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence, 12th February 1912. Members of the Technical Committee. Re Rear Axle. Mr Royce wishes us to try 17 tooth pinion, 52 tooth wheel, 4's pitch. Try also the same ratio (3-1 approximately) but coarser teeth (16 teeth on pinion). These gears must be as wide and as large in diameter as the present box will allow. They should provide an oil film much greater in area than any we have tried previously, and may thus give still quieter running. These experiments should be put in hand without delay. ----------- Thos. Nadin. X783 | ||
