MARMON CAR. x1692

When we dismantled the Marmon car in order that a drawing should be made of the Crankshaft, we were struck with the entire absence of wear on the Crankshaft and also by the excellent appearance of the bearings. As it was only a three-bearing crankshaft and as the engine is a high efficiency engine, we were rather surprised at the results. Below are the particulars of this crankshaft and the analysis of the steel.

The crankshaft we believe, is better as regards absence of wear than we get on our own engine after the same mileage (8000 miles). We have examined the filtering system for the oil to see whether there are any special features about it. The only point we notice is that there is a large settling tank for the oil.
