The performance of oilless bushes from a Marmon car and a recommendation for their use on the 40/50 HP model.

OILLESS BUSHES, MARMON CAR

The Marmon Car has completed 6,300 miles since we received it and it had run 1000 miles before it left U.S.A., so that altogether it has completed 7,300 miles. During that time the bushes for the road springs have not been lubricated. As a matter of fact, there is no means of lubricating them. The car during the whole time has been particularly free from squeaks, rattles and knocks in the springs. We have had the springs off and examined the bushes. Practically no wear has taken place in the bushes. The bushes, of course, do not have the same appearance as well lubricated bushes but they are much better as regards absence of wear after the same mileage than we get on our standard bushes.

We have received some samples of similar bearings as are used on the Marmon Car from the O and S Oilless Bearing Co.Ltd. We are sending to Mr. Royce these samples with their list. Another advantage with these bushes is, the parts which wear are easily replaceable. We recommend that we obtain a set of these bearings and try them on the 40/50 H.P. We think it would be an excellent thing if we could only use them on the brake actuating shafts on the rear axle which are very very difficult to lubricate and seldom get lubricated.
