X6110. EFC5/AD. 27th March, 1931. Mr. Symons, Messrs. H.D. Symons & Co.Ltd. Kingston Hill, Surrey. Dear Sir, Tests of Insulating Papers. We were duly in receipt of yours (two letters) ref. HDS/AMP. of the 23rd inst. We are pleased that we have introduced you to a new method of test which may be useful to you. You ask for our comments on the relative value of testing a single layer of paper at lower voltage and a larger number of layers at correspondingly higher voltage. We do not think there is a great deal to choose but there may be slight advantages in the high voltage multi-layer test in that (a) A better average is struck. and (b) The effect of surface moisture enters into the result in a less pronounced way. Apart from the above, one feels it can be of little consequence on a purely conductance test so long as a potential gradient through the paper is the same in the two cases. | ||
