FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} SECRET. E8/M29.1.29. Copy to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} SS.{S. Smith} CAMSHAFT DOWEL SCREW. X7090 Blueprint LeC. 2654. has been made in answer to a report that some oil leakage has been observed from these screws. All camshaft bearing dowel screws are horizontal except the one for No.6. bearing which is masked by the magneto bracket. No.6. at present has a through hole to the bearing and is put in at an angle from below, in which position it might leak through the spring washer. We have therefore shewn how this screw can be put into the upper half of the camshaft bearing. We do not propose any alteration to the other screws until we hear more definitely, as the horizontal dowels on Phantom give no trouble. The original drawing is attached to BY's copy of this memo.
