Copy to Mr. [redacted] Mr. [redacted] Mr. [redacted] Mr. [redacted] Mr/CFFH. Handwritten notes: Plating Handle PM 1003 STT (circled) E/PEN.1/H.30.4.37. Written RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/SM STARTING HANDLE OUTSIDE THE BUMPERS - P.III. We send you herewith a re-issue of Lec.5610 and should be pleased if you would detail from it the scheme for the starting handle outside the bumpers. It will be necessary to provide the support on the bumpers for the starting handle as indicated on the scheme. The adoption of a starting handle outside the bumpers would mean a deletion of the present front starting handle support bearing, and the provision of a simplified bracket in its place to carry the town driving light when one is fitted. We should be pleased if the Experimental Department would rig up a car with the present front starting handle support bracket omitted and with a perfectly plain front apron in conjunction with the provision of the support off the bumpers for the starting handle. The object of the alteration is reduction of cost which will be over £1.0.0. per chassis for the complete scheme, and the object of a test is to judge the appearance of the car with provision for a starting handle outside the bumpers and also to see whether we can find a place to stow the long starting handle which is necessary.
