Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} --- 1021 BY.4/G.14.7.38. RE: USE OF FLOATEX TYPE OF MOUNTING IN CONJUNCTION WITH A BOX SECTION BASE MEMBER TO THE BODY. Referring to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/R.9.7.38. and Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}17/E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} 6.7.38. I was able to completely convince Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} as the result of experience, riding in (a). The Wraith, rolling down Warwick Avenue without the engine running. (b). Similarly with a Packard. The Packard, apart from body rattles, was very much worse from the point of view of the dull rumble produced by the rolling of the tyres over varying road surfaces. The demonstration was completed by illustrating to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} on the actual body of Bentley 50 that one could push the mounting about with one's fingers, whilst B.lll had a perfectly stable base, which it was impossible to move owing to its box section form. I return papers herewith. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
