We give below extract from a report from our tester Wright, in regard to an incident which has occurred on the road whilst testing a "New Phantom(Codename for PHANTOM I)" Chassis. "Whilst testing the above chassis on the 8th. inst. I was returning to the Works along the Ashbourne Rd. about 4.45 p.m. when a dog dashed out of a hedge. To avoid killing it I jammed on the brakes, and the steering immediately swung round to the right, and before I could regain control the car went through the hedge into a field. At the time of applying the brakes I did not knowingly swerve, but may instinctively have done so slightly. The road being quite clear and empty I was travelling at a speed of about 35 m.p.h. the off side wheels being on the crown of the road". We shall be glad to know whether you consider anything further can be done than has already been done. You will remember we have already emphasised this point in a special booklet, which has been followed by more explicit instructions to the Depots regarding the use of front wheel brakes. EP. {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} /Thn. | ||
