HOTEL DE FRANCE. CHATEAUROUX. Indre. France. To. G.W.H. From. A.B.R. On Thursday morning we tried the Delahaye 3.3 Litres, Coupe des Alpes. This Car has 3 Carburetters and the complete Car weighs approximately 26 cwt, the B.H.P. of the engine is 110. The carburation on this car at low speeds was very poor and could hardly get away at 10 MPH. The Bentley pulled away easily both on top gear and on the gears and even after the Delahaye got going, continued to gain, having a lead of about 1/2 a mile in the 4 Kilometers. An interesting feature of this Car was the Oil Radiator mounted below the Water Radiator. The driver of this car stated that on the competition engine with summer air temperatures during races it was worth 20°c, their oil temperature never going above 85°-90°c. The temperature being taken at the outlet from the Engine to the pump. In the afternoon; the Hotchkiss was tried and this car gave us the best run so far of any of the cars tried, though the Bentley was superior both on top gears and through the gears. The Hotchkiss was run over the standing start 2 Kilometers and clocked 1 m.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} 6.3/5 secs as against the Bentley 1m. 3 secs. The Hotchkiss is called 20 H.P. develops 120 B.H.P. and weighs 30 cwt. ---------- A.B.R. A.B.Roberts | ||
