DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Copy to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} re. AXLE FILLING. With reference to the question of making the filling of the hypoid axle less difficult, we have looked into the question of putting a plug in the back cover. This appears to be clear of the petrol tank and any obstruction, and would undoubtedly facilitate filling by a pump. The cover itself however is too high and a plug would be above the maximum permissible level, so that to use it for both filling and levelling is not so easy. On N. scheme 3102. herewith we suggest that a plug should be used in the back cover, and the standard stand-pipe, or one increased in dia., for the purpose of levelling, and alternatively, if the filling arrangement is very good we suggest that we might alter the axle case casting, and put in a plug below the cover. This involves alteration to the drilling of the side plates. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
