CHEMICAL ANALYSIS.
Carbon: 1.43 %
Nickel: %
Chromium: 1.20 %
Vanadium: %
Tungsten: %
Manganese: .60 %
Silicon: %
Sulphur: %
Phosphorus: %
Remarks, etc.
The brittleness of the race is due to the high carbon & manganese. A close examination revealed the presence of small hair cracks which showed up much better on tapping with a hammer. Micro-examination indicates considerable free cementite in a semicellular arrangement.
