July 19, 1918. To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from HCH. c. EH. H1/P19718. Mr Hives has informed me that it is thought possible that certain parts previously in steel or copper-base alloys may be required to be changed over to a high tensile aluminium alloy. Under these considerations it is desirable to have comparative test results on some of the available alloys, as compared with gun metal etc. [TABLE START] Alloy Type | H.T. | A metal similar to H metal, more ductility than the first. [TABLE END] [Handwritten note next to Gun Metal and Phosphor Bronze columns]: good quality material going through works The tensile results above were made on the sand cast bars. To find the approximate chill cast test result, 15% should be added to the H.T. figures, 20% to the H metal figures and 30% to the crankcase metal figures.
