file 1204 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}2/ML.23.5.40. DRAWINGS. We have today inspected the premises at Ashby. Drastic reorganisation is urgently required, if the idea of storing blueprints is to serve it's purpose, because : (a) There is no record of what drawings are stored at Ashby. (b) They are incomplete and there is no way of checking completion because of (a). (c) There are no operation planning sheets stored, which can be considered just as important as tool drawings. If the reason for starting this storage plan at Ashby is to be considered as really important, we suggest the following : (a) An immediate "stock-take" of all blueprints stored to date. (b) Design and Detail Departmental Section's Leaders to be responsible for making up the deficiency in drawings. (c) Index sheets to be stored as "complete engines" so that reference is then available to the necessary L.O.P's for any individual engine, and from that the necessary detail drawings. (d) A complete record of every blueprint should be available in log-book form, of every print stored. One or two points which should receive attention in this reorganisation at Ashby are : (a) Of the drawings so far stored : While schemes have been filed in duplicate (R.R. and Air Ministry) only single prints are available of detail drawings. (b) Operation planning sheets should be stored. (c) The first move in replanning the Ashby storage should be a detailed list of just what engines are to represented. (Both single cylinder and main engine.) Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation} | ||
