RE. IGNITION - 40/50 & GOSHAWK.

Handwritten: X1413 (crossed out), X1812, X4560

Naturally we cannot get much advantage from the use of the small plug until several makes are available, but it has occurred to me that since we cannot get 2/plugs in the Goshawk, we might adopt one large plug, and one miniature plug. Where-ever the car was located there could be no cause for stoppage - the owner would be as well of as at present. At the same time if he took the trouble to purchase small plugs he could have both his ignitions wired up constantly. If it was found preferable to use all small plugs, the hole in which the large plug was usually fitted could be fitted with an adapter for a small plug.

X1413 With reference to the switching arrangements I think that when the magneto is fitted we ought to have an auxiliary switch that will cut out either of the ignitions. I think this is an absolute necessity on the 40/50 and would enable us to adopt the locked switch box without losing the advantage of the locking of the ignition, because the auxiliary switch can, and should, be arranged so that it cannot make either ignition work when the locked switch is in the off position. It is really only a switch for putting out either ignition, putting out the battery ignition by an extra break, and putting out the magneto by an extra earth connection. We will design a switch as soon as possible for the above combination.
