To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} BOWERING Copy to RHO. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} R/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}2/MN.24.12.35. file D.W.S. Hydraulic Jack mounted on Lower Front Triangle. We send herewith LeC 4891 showing the D.W.S. Hydraulic jack ram mounted on the lower front triangle or wishbone. The forging and machining of the front wishbone is unmodified but a new bracket carrying the rubber buffer has been schemed which at the same time carries the Jack ram. This bracket is a mild steel drop forging, the dies being split vertically. We are having detailed in the Research Detailing Department a similar bracket made in bronze in order to geta rapid test of the behaviour of a jack mounted in this position, as we understand that jacks in this position have been tried by certain makers, and a difficulty with the scrubbing of the jack on the road has been experienced. The ram itself is identical with the rear ram except that the screw threads for retaining the same are in a different position on the barrel. The subsequent scheme will show the run of the copper pipe which will be carried along the rear wishbone, rear arm and the small length of Lockheed flex on the trunion in the lower pan.
