Myth Frame.

A fourth torsional stiffness test has been carried out on the first Myth Frame.

The changes made between the 3rd. and 4th. tests are shown on PL.3001. The rearmost cross-member has been boxed in and the body mounting brackets have been modified and strengthened.

The results of this test are shown on the attached sheet, together with the results of Test 3 which is included for comparison. It will be seen that the rate between wheels is now 526 lb.ft/degree.

As stated in our previous memo (FJH{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}/GB.2/HM.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} 15.2.44.) the frame was gas-welded (in the absence of facilities for electric welding) at points between the side members, cruciform and 2nd. cross-member where the original welding had been inadequate or faulty. This caused a reduction in rate of 27 lb.ft/degree between the front and rear wheels. It is therefore to be expected that if the production model is entirely electric-welded the overall rate between the wheels should be about 553 lb.ft/degree.

This figure may be compared to 542 lb.ft/degree for the Vauxhall 10. frame (as supplied for outside body builders).
