(a) in shunting.
(b) in starting on a hill.
(c) in changing gear by inexpert hands.
(d) in preventing firing in exhaust by automatically completely closing the throttle when engine over-runs the governor.

It is a RR. feature which goes for RR. perfection, and which if deleted gives less of a RR. car, and more is demanded of the driver. I have personally examined every possible combination and have so far concluded that the practice we are now following at Derby of using the efficient high speed governor and roller bearing throttle is the best combination for our high class and powerful engines.
