CAR WORK - ENGINE POWER

Good and sound progress is being made and I quite agree with most of the things that are proposed, but I want particular care taken that we do not attempt too much -

(1) In increased valve lift and very sudden opening, because it may make conditions that are impractical, unreliable, and wanting in silence.

(2) In the 'Bansport' the supercharger will help us to bear some resistance through the inlet valves, and we need not attempt (1) to an extent that risks trouble.

(3) Valve timing seems quite good since we adopted judging it with greater tappet clearance. With .020 I should like to see the inlet at 45° and exhaust 40°, rather than the other way about, because it might be better for detonations.
