-6- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}14/KW.28.9.36. (8) Exhaust System. A lighter and quieter exhaust system than the present standard has now completed 15,000 miles in France. The pieces that have given trouble are standard bits. (9) Improved Ride. We have now got 5-B-IV fitted up with the best we can do with the conventional suspension, which includes stiffened frame, shock absorbers operating at the ends of the axle, 5" deflection front springs. We expect to have a car fitted with the Citroen suspension on the road in about 3 to 4 weeks' time. (10) Body with Improved Entrance. 3-B-IV is at Park Wards having the body with improved entrance fitted. (11) High Power Overhead Camshaft 6-Cylinder Unit. This is now completed. Its development will be retarded until we get the new test bed. It should be appreciated that the car test bench units have been doing all the work on developing Hall's metal bearings, which has absorbed an enormous amount of the running time available. We can now see that there is a lot more running required on the bearing material, and we are going to be severely handicapped unless we can get the new test bed quickly. (12) Single Cylinder Work. The investigation on the side exhaust, overhead inlet valve unit is continuing. (13) Less Costly Rear Axle Design. We have been following up all the available information on rear axle design, and we have issued a report (Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}14/KW.24.9.36 & Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}15/KW.24.9.36).
