-5- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}14/KW.28.9.36. BENTLEY. (1) 15,000 Miles Test in France. 15,000 miles have now been completed on the engine bearings. An examination has taken place. There is a considerable amount of wear on the journals of the crankshaft and main bearings. Since it is obvious that some modification to the bearings will be required as a result of this test, the car will be brought back within the next few days for examination. (2) Brake Jaggers. These parts have now completed 10,000 miles in France. (3) Clutch. Hancock reports that at present there are no customers' complaints on the 4¼ litre Bentley clutch. (4) Brakes Fading. Reports from France indicate that the aluminium drums have eliminated brake fading. A certain amount of scoring of the liners has taken place, however, which is being investigated. (5) Sparking Plug Trouble on Ethyl Fuel. Numerous experiments in hand: no progress to report. (6) Oil Consumption. On the next Bentley car we send to France we anticipate that we shall have an oil consumption of about 2,000 M.P.G. (7) Brakes - Simplification and Reduction of Cost. A report has been issued on the Girling brake system, with our recommendations (Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}10/KW.25.9.36. and Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}11/KW.25.9.36). | ||
