Faulty Buick battery, detailing cell failures and requesting an examination.

[STAMP: RECEIVED 11 AUG 1919] On the 8th instant we sent to Derby per passenger train the battery which we have taken from the "Buick" car. Would you kindly obtain possession of this from the Stores, and have it cut open and examined with a view to finding out the reason for its failure. The middle cell was the first to fail, and we have been unable to get any potential from it by slow or rapid charging. The end cell at the positive end of the battery failed next, but seems to temporarily regain potential by charging, which potential however, it rapidly loses with time. The end cell at the negative end of the battery seems O.K. It may be advisable before you cut up the battery, to try the effect of a prolonged slow charge.
