X.4050. RE DEMOUNTABLE RIMS FOR STRAIGHT SIDED TYRES. X.3944. X.3943/4. We have now had a fair amount of experience with (X.3943) (X.3944) Firestone, Stanwell and Goodyear demountable rims. Our criticisms of these are as follows:- X.200. Weight. The following is the weight of a Dunlop detacheable wheel fitted with these rims:- Plain Dunlop wheel - 38.5 lbs. Dunlop with Goodyear rim - 41.75 " " " Firestone " - 43.75 " " " Stanwell. " - 43.0 Ease of mounting and demounting a tyre. It is possible to change a tyre on the Firestone rim much easier than either the Goodyear or the Stanwell rim. The goodyear rim comes the next. The goodyear is quite an easy rim to change, providing a proper tool is made for the job. The Goodyear people do not provide such a tool and if one tries with the ordinary screw-driver and tools which are in the usual kit, it is difficult. The Stanwell rim is the most difficult to change a tyre but even with this rim it would be reasonable if proper tools were made to do the job. Safety. we have carried out tests on the road with these three rims by fitting on a cover with a scrap inner tube and Contd. | ||
