SECRET. X8770 CWB1/EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/19.1.25. To BJ. from CWB. Handwritten Note: CWB I think we should keep 14 tooth axle for very heavy bodies. Customers like "vim" on hills. EAC "V" Series - 44-PK. I was able to give the above car a fairly thorough trial on 17.1.25, and have to report as follows:- Generally, the car has a good performance, but as regards absence of vibrations and sweetness in pick-up it is not nearly so good as 93-NK recently sent us for test. The body with which this car is fitted naturally throws up any vibrations which may be present, but making due allowance for this, it is definitely felt that the engine of this car is not as satisfactory as that of 93-NK. Dealing with the various items in detail - (1) ENGINE. On picking up from dead slow the engine was quite rough and lumpy from about 13 m.p.h. to 15 or 16. This was tried on all the variations possible of the ignition, and strangely enough, it was least apparent on magneto only, possibly due to the position of the plug connected with the magneto ignition relative to the inlet and exhaust valves. Definite vibrations were observed at 31, 44 and 52 m.p.h. while accelerating. It could not be determined whether these were initially caused by the engine or by some part of the transmission gear, but they felt very similar to the now wellknown transmission groan. They are not pronounced in intensity, and if this chassis represented the worst that would be produced, are passable. The engine has considerable vibration on the over-run, and at 48 m.p.h. this is quite intense to a degree which cannot be considered passable. There is an exhaust spit when over-running, which is probably due to the throttle being a little sticky and not closing properly. This is a very objectionable feature if at all pronounced.
