RECEIVED STAMP: Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} APR 28 1922 X4LL00 There are one or two points in connection with the use and fitting of these lubricators which came to light on the Riviera demonstration car No. 107-MG. I think you would wish to know these, so as to make a success of the useful fitting:- (1) It appears that in a number of cases the greaser is either insufficiently long or beds down too closely on to (for example) a spring shackle bolt. When this is the case the nozzle on the flex of the grease gun comes choc-a-bloc before either the valve in the greaser or the one in the nozzle has been opened. Pressure given with the gun thereupon bursts the flex which, in any case, appears to be rather weak. (2) In certain places the clearances left ( this mostly applies to coachbuilders) which previously were sufficient to enable the old type greaser cap to be completely unscrewed, refilled, and replaced are not now sufficient; it is necessary to present the grease gun and its flex practically in a straight line with the greaser. (3) The fact last mentioned in (2) makes it necessary also that certain greasers should be fitted at a different angle to the present practice. Take, for example, the vertical one on the rear spring rollers. With the grease gun this is best approached by passing one arm over the top of the wheel and the other one round or through the wheel - an awkward job which could be avoided if the greaser in question were inclined backwards at 45 degrees.
