Bentley Car S.B.V. 15,000 miles test.

Notes on faults reported during recent running in France.

(1) Bolts in Floatex mounting of wheel arch support brackets immediately in front of rear axle foul rear road springs on full deflection. These two bolts have been inverted so that the heads are now downwards, this has increased the clearance by .500 and cured the trouble.

(2) Hand brake ratchet sticking due to damage to GW.1991 Stoneguard and general ingress of dirt to the mechanism. A steeder shield has been called for. Experiments with a simplified and less vulnerable mechanism are being carried out.

(3) Propeller Shaft vibration. We must be quite certain that the transmission line is correct for the final cars.

(4) Servo judders attributed to water entering servo. A modification to the Bakelite washer has been incorporated and tests on the rig and on S.B.V. with adhesive tape to seal the joint between the spring and the plate are being carried out.

(5) Wear of Bakelite Washer in Servo. It is hoped that it will be possible to reduce considerably the spring pressure which should reduce the wear on the Bakelite washer. It may also be necessary to use material of the Ferodo type.

(6) The rivetting of the VG.90 lining to the servo plate is not yet satisfactory. This is receiving full investigation and test on the rig.

(7) Oil leaks from Gear Box.

(a) Front end of layshaft Weldite is at present being used to seal this joint, but it is not satisfactory.
