PROGRESS MEETING.

REPORT FOR 29TH MAY AT WHICH MR BAILEY, MR VALE, MR HIVES, MR WILLIS AND BN.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} WERE PRESENT.

The rivets for Silencer Baffles E.115 have always been quoted as copper rivets, and this specification is retained on the latest supervision sheets. The drawing office find that the works have always used soft iron rivets, and the point for decision was whether the material actually used by the shops should now be altered to copper. It was understood that copper rivets as specified had been ordered and delivered, and it was therefore agreed that copper rivets should be used as specified instead of the soft iron rivets which the works had been used to fitting.

Exhaust Box E.10/E.11. and Union U.1711

The original design calls for two taper pins for the purpose of locking these unions in the Exhaust Box. The works practise has been to screw in short studs and rivet over. The works prefer to adopt Drawing Office proposal fitting two taper pins. It was agreed that this should be proceeded with.

Connecting Rod Liners for Repair Cars.

The Production Drawing Office raised the question of whitemetalling in connecting rod liners for repair cars in accordance with our latest practises, and it was agreed that this was desirable. Mr. Bailey was directed to send recommendations to Captain Hallam that these liners for repair work should be ordered in suitable batches for stock, in accordance with detail drawing to be prepared by the Production Drawing Office.

Arising out of the discussion on this question, Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} promised to take up with Mr. Royce the question of modifying the design of the standard 40/50 chassis connecting rod liners to enable these pieces to be stamped. This necessitates a modification to the profile of the steel part for whitemetalling purposes in such a manner that the dies may be of a convenient form.

Proposed alterations to Fabric Clutch Liner G.6504

It was proposed by the Production Drawing Office to reduce the diameter of the Clutch Line as made to render it
