X4008 7.10.27. CONDITIONS TO BE SATISFIED BY A PERFECT AUTO CHARGE REDUCING SWITCH. (1) It must only involve one single pair of contacts in addition to those of the cutout. (2) It must reduce the rate of charge approximately to 1/4 of the normal value. (3) It must not operate prematurely (i.e. before the cut-in has time to operate) when the dynamo is accelerated suddenly or the charging switch be on with dynamo running fast. (4) It must give protection against excessive over-voltage of the dynamo, resulting from an open dynamo-battery circuit anywhere between distribution box terminal A and the main charging switch, via the cutout contacts, series coil, frame, battery, battery fuse, ammeter, and so to switch.
