I.B.IV.

R.{Sir Henry Royce} Pattinson arrived with the brake shoes and front silencer last night. Messrs Guilain dealt with the Customs. With regard to Roberts, Guilain was not called upon to deal with the articles he brought over. The customs did not want to bother with a temporary entry and as the duties were only Frs 102.15, we did not press for it. They were however very keen on the car number and whether the parts were going to be fitted to that car, therefore it is inadvisable to send over via Boulogne any parts marked for I. B. IV. The parts are charged by weight not cost.

RE TROUBLE WITH PETROL SYSTEM.

We have run this morning without any sign of failure, after stopping the engine with the filter in the new position and cutting out the petrol tap and pipes on the dash. We are looking to see whether we can scheme out a position for the tap at the bottom of the dashboard. During this mornings run 95 M.P.H. per speedometer was reached and there was no difficulty in reaching 4500 revs.
The half crankshaft period becomes noticeable when everything is extremely hot.
The transmission period was not noticeable during this mornings run.

REAR AXLE

There is a feature in the rear axle that may lead to trouble without it is altered, that is the oil level plug. There is a short length of tube inside the axle box set at an angle inclined upwards. When the plug is taken out for replenishment 8 c.c. which collects in the tube drains out and it is possible that this oil draining out will give the owner the impression that the oil level is O.K. whereas it can be definitely low.
