Proposed changes and suggestions for the Goshawk II electrical system.

X.4165 We thought we should be in order, in view of the urgency of this chassis, in making any suggestions which might occur to us regarding the electrical system, and we have accordingly made some schemes, of which we send prints herewith, namely, "N" Scheme 717, 721, 736 & 742. The main idea is shewn on "N" Scheme 742, a diagram of connections, from which it will be seen that it is proposed to dispense with the distribution board and substitute for it a combined switch box on the instrument board which will contain the present lighting switch box and the present ignition switch box, and that the only other electrical apparatus is the combined cut-out and regulator, and possibly a small fuse box somewhere on the chassis, probably the front side of the dashboard, containing a single fuse from the battery to earth. This also enables the system to be at any time insulated from the battery by simply removing the earth fuse, but it may also be pointed out that the blowing of the fuse does not put out the lights at any speed over cutting out speed. It is considered that the dynamo cannot injure itself when the battery becomes disconnected, in the same way that a inherently controlled machine can. It is suggested to use ferflex armoured cables, very much as now, and carried round the dashboard where necessary through U shaped conduits, but that there will be very much fewer wires, and the system as a whole will be very much less.
