Dear Sirs,

Further to our correspondence with regard to your A.C.9 bearings, we have now tried a set with not very satisfactory results.

The bearings were fitted to your and Wellworthy's instructions and run on a Nitralloy shaft, the clearance, both side and diametral, was kept on your high limit and the oil used was Mobiloil R.{Sir Henry Royce} Castor base with graphite added; pressure was constant at 120 lbs. per sq. in. neglecting centrifugal effects.

The bearings were "run in" for about 150 miles and then run in a race at the Crystal Palace totalling about 60 miles.

Our normal white metal bearing in the same engine would have been perfect under these conditions and only begins to crack after a lot of work.

We have sent to you under separate cover the worst of the bearings but they are all much of a muchness.

Your comments would be very much appreciated,

Yours faithfully,

FOR & ON BEHALF OF
ALTA CAR & ENG. CO. LTD.
