X.3097 To EH. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c to EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} E2/B25.6.17. X.3097 - RE EAGLE ENGINES FOR SEAPLANE WORK X.3104. With further reference to my memo E1/B21.6.17, would you kindly note that I have now discussed the question of reducing the series 8 Eagles to 330 HP with Mr. Royce. He does not approve entirely of the small throat, as although the high torque and filling up only exist for a short time in getting off the water, he thinks that we might get pre-ignitions. We says that we should suggest the small throat first and lower compression second, and that you will settle which the engine tan run at. Probably a combination of the two will be found desirable. Mr. Royce approved, however, of the economy obtained by obtaining the high expansion ratio. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
