[Handwritten on Graph] Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 956 The rate of increase of consumption will also depend upon the efficiency of the rings and piston in resisting the passage of oil to the combustion chamber. As a check upon our test bench results it is interesting to note that the Phantom at present on test in France is fitted up with three main oil feeds only and is giving very good consumption - 3000 miles/gall. This car is fitted with std. 'L' section rings and not plain concentric as used for our tests. Other road tests which we have so far conducted in this country show us that the consumption on the 40/50 HP. and the Phantom is substantially the same when the aggregate oil discharge through their bearings is the same. Plain rings being used in both cases. A standard 40/50 HP. and Phantom were compared under similar running conditions with the oil flow through their bearings at 2000 r.p.m. adjusted by pressure to give contd :- | ||
