Rry ************************* Aluminium Brake Shoes - Phantom III Front Brakes. *************************************************** We send herewith N.Sch.4956 showing aluminium brake shoes fitted to the Phantom III front brakes. These have been requested for experimental test in connection with front brake fading. We have shown the Hancock shoe as a mild steel forging as it is thought that these would be as cheap as an aluminium bronze casting, but if the latter is cheaper and to be preferred, we see no objection to its use. Would RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/Wragg please arrange to have the matter of cost investigated. The actual alloy from which the main shoes should be made depends upon the coefficient of expansion required and Lo-Ex has been suggested if the thermal expansion of the other alloys is found to be too great.
