X6142 BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. c. BY/RD. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.3/KT.22.9.32. X6096 X6016 X6142 VOLTAGE REGULATORS ON PEREGRINE. We wish to start off the expl. Peregrine chassis with voltage regulator dynamos, in preference to the three-rate charge, 3rd brush control dynamo. In order to save time, however, we are proceeding on the first two Peregrines with the proposed standard three rate charge, 20/25 scheme incorporating D.sch.529. dynamo, modified switch-box, and resistance unit as instructed. We should be glad, therefore, if you will arrange to look into the question of instructing the remaining four Peregrine chassis, with 20/25 shunt dynamos and CAV. regulator units. The shunt dynamo for these machines, in order to save time, can be the proposed standard D.sch.529 dynamo, modified by deleting the control brush, fitting concentric poles and altering the field winding. The field winding we have found most suitable, at the moment, on our existing 20/25 HP. shunt machine, which we have been running, consists of approx. 200 turns per pole of 21 SWG. DCC. wire, and we suggest that this winding be instructed for these four machines. A regulator unit will be required consisting of the CAV. regulator mounted suitably on a base plate, with a small resistance unit mounted alongside, all under one cover, as on 19-EX. We propose handing to BY/RD. a CAV. regulator, so that a suitable drawing can be made, and we will also arrange to let him have the value of the resistance required. A new wiring diagram will also be required shewing the inclusion of the regulator in the scheme. With regard to the brush setting of the dynamo, we cannot give precise details of this until we have had at least one machine for test. We recommend that temporarily these machines be instructed with the existing 3rd. brush control setting. The issuing of these new instructions will naturally cancel the existing instructions to the shop for the Peregrine chassis dynamo, switch-box, distribution board, etc. | ||
