I have been investigating complaints at our Cricklewood Depot, and they report that the chief trouble with the Phantom and 25 HP. dynamo is the harsh running of the rear ball race. They report that the oil runs straight through leaving the bearing dry due to the heat. They report that Lucas' supply a High Melting Point Grease which gives good results for these bearings. They also pointed out to me that the brush cover could not be moved far enough back, due to the lagging of the exhaust down pipe on the latest 25 HP. to get to the lubrication. I have verified this on our chassis, the only difference being that a man with thin fingers can just manage to unscrew the lubrication cap. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/G.W.H. | ||
