With reference to second paragraph of your
H3/M7.1.24. You are right in supposing that we knowe of nothing so far which we could adopt which will answer the description of being thoroughly reliable yet easy for any good electrician to repair, so that we cannot advise otherwise than to continue with the third brush control for immediate output.

Our attitude has always been that the advantages gained, with a reliable system of this nature, would be so great that a really good system is worth striving for.

The most reliable we know of from the point of view of performance is undoubtedly the R.{Sir Henry Royce} Bosch, and though this does not meet the conditions you state, nevertheless it has certain features which seem to be definitely good.

We attach a copy of small diagram of the R.Bosch dynamo and regulator, which was previously sent to you under cover of our EFC5/T16.11.22. One particular feature which we think is good is that in the second stage of the regulation where the field excitation is still further reduced, this is brought about not be intermittently short circuiting the field winding completely, but by intermittently connecting it in parallel with the series winding of the regulator, in such a direction that the discharge from the field winding will reduce the load current in the series coil and cause the frequency of vibration to be greater than would otherwise be the case, which presumably is desirable.
