Contd. -2- EFC4/T12.1.24. There is also another feature in the Bosch system which appears to be rather good. This occurs on the cutout unit which is similar to the regulator unit. The cutout unit, like the regulator unit, has a contact at each end. When the main cut-out contact is made, the auxiliary contact is broken. This auxiliary contact cuts off the supply of current to a little red lamp, and also to the starter motor relay circuit, so that normally the pressing of the starter motor push button when the car is running would have no effect. When the car is running and dynamo is charging normally, the light is out, but should the dynamo fail to charge, the red light would come on. The red light would again come on when the car is stopped, until the switchbox was locked up, when an additional switch operated by the key would again cut the red light off. Thus (1) When car is running, appearance of red light means dynamo is not charging. (2) When car is stopped, appearance of red light means switchbox is not locked. In passing, on our new proposed silent starter motor control, it is still the case that a noise is produced if the starter motor button be pressed while the car is running, but if some auxiliary contact operated by the cutout could be inserted in this circuit, this last remaining effect would also be eliminated.
