Brooklands tests to address car over-heating issues by modifying the fan, radiator, and undershield.

We agree that the first thing that should be done is to make sure we are doing the very best with our own car to reduce the tendency for over-heating. 24-EX, the left-hand car, has fitted to it an alteration to the undershield and also a new type of fan which we think will help the cooling. Also, this car has the new type radiator which gives us 1" deeper matrix, which is also a definite advantage. We took this car on Brooklands before it went to France. (It is our intention in the future that we shall run all cars on Brooklands before they go across to France). We ran the car continuously full throttle for a number of laps. The water did not exceed 93°C and there were no signs of failure in the petrol system (this car was fitted with improved autovac which has recently been standardised). Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} is at present conducting tests on Brooklands track in connection with over-heating. When these tests are completed we shall be able to issue a report making recommendations for existing cars. As regards Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}'s suggestion of tests without the shutters, these/have already been made and we find that there is no difference in the cooling with the shutters entirely removed.
