contd:- The remaining 2 chassis will be retained at Derby for investigation and experimental tests and for trying out alternative schemes or improvements. We consider six is the minimum number of cars which should be used for the experimental tests. If it is agreed to allot any more, all the better, because we think we are taking considerable risk in endeavouring to turn out cars fitted with front wheel brakes to customers in the time proposed. We recommend that the tests should start at the beginning of November. If the announcement of the brakes has not been made by that time, we ought not to delay the tests. If necessary, it would be possible to make arrangements to get the cars to a quiet part of France as standard cars and for the new parts to be re-fitted there. There is no reason, when the tests are completed, why the cars could not be handed over as trials cars. We assume by your memo. BJ1/H4.10.23 that we need not now worry further with armoured car bodies for E.A.C-3. We shall, therefore, require standard type bodies for the 6 cars suggested. C. has already given us Nos. 93-NK and 35-PK as chassis to be taken for E.A.C-3 experimental - if the above scheme is agreed to we require 4 further chassis to be allotted.
