We send herewith N. scheme 2068. shewing the preliminary layout of the chassis of EAC.8. This chassis is the existing Phantom modified only in respect to the following points:-

(1) Engine moved along transmission 1.5".

(2) Stepped dash.

(3) Steering moved forward on frame 1"

(4) Revised radiator suspension & radiator with integral shutters, having tubes of standard length (4.750".)

(5) Revised seating positions, economising the room between pedals & dash on 'C' & 'D' types.

In other respects the chassis is unaltered from the existing standard Phantom.

The following are the advantages gained by the above modifications:-

(a) A rigid dashboard with better support for the steering column.

(b) The overhang of the column behind the dash is shortened on all steerings & especially on the 'D' - (about 4".)

(c) There is an increased body space behind the back of the front seat, while still retaining the present driving seat positions as far as the driver is concerned. The increased body space is approximately as follows:- 'B' type 1 1/2", 'C' type 3", and 'D' type 4". These improvements have been obtained without shortening the bonnet.

(d) This will cause the short chassis to be more useful and should result in an increase in the number ordered.

(e) Increased accessibility to the rear of the engine is given by the hollow dashboard.

(f) The length of the engine coupling is increased, reducing the effect of slight out of alignment.
