X328 To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Smth.11/KW.13.12.35. Phantom III Gearboxes - Chunking. From evidence we have got up to the present time, there are indications that the most important parts of the gearbox to keep tight are the sliding pieces, both in the splines and dogs. We have no definite evidence yet that it is permissible to have other fits slack providing that these are tight, but bring the matter to your notice so that you can take every care to keep the sliding members a good fit in the boxes on production.
