THE WAR OFFICE,
(Contracts Dept).

CAXTON HOUSE WEST,

WESTMINSTER, S.W.1.

Cts.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}/I/555.(D.C.2).
4th April 1933.

Gentlemen,

Contract I/555 dated 27th October 1932.
Tank Engines.

With reference to your letter (E/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner}9/HP) dated 14th February last, relative to the screening of the engines to be supplied under the abovementioned contract, I am directed to inform you that it is now agreed that the cost of the provision of filter units should be borne by this Department, and the necessary arrangements are being made for their supply and fitment by the Department.

With regard to the screening of the additional 61 engines ordered on 24th February, I am to state that it is understood that a new type of cable having phosphor-bronze braiding but no outer cotton layer and of 3/8" diameter, is now available in place of the Air Ministry type of cable at first proposed, and I am to enquire whether this cable can be incorporated in the screening of the 61 engines. If so, I am to ask whether its provision will entail any alteration in the contract price of the Engines.

I am also to request you to be good enough to furnish the Department with a specification of the cable and the name of the makers, in order that a supply may be obtained for replacement purposes.

I am, Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant

Asst. Director of Army Contracts.

Messrs.Rolls-Royce Ld.
Derby.
